Even if you already know some of these things, these articles can hopefully act as a friendly and gentle reminder to take care of yourself.

As with many other things – consistency is the key. Cleansing is arguably the most important part of your skincare routine.

Skin-Friendly Habits - Cleansing Skin

4 Reasons Why Cleansing Your Skin Is So Important

1. It Removes Dirt And Prevents Skin Issues

Makeup, excessive oil, pollution, dead skin cells, and other things that accumulate on your face throughout the day, can cause a surprising amount of issues if you don’t take care of your skin and cleanse it properly at the end of the day. Clogged pores can be a breeding ground for bacteria that causes pimples, blackheads, whiteheads and other issues. Cleansing your skin is especially important if you use makeup, but even if you don’t, stuff still accumulates on your skin throughout the day and that is why I truly do believe that most, if not all people should thoroughly cleanse their face at least once, but preferably twice a day.

2. It Makes Your Skin Look Better Overall

Not only does cleansing your skin prevent acne and other issues, it’s simply healthier looking overall. Washing your face hydrates, rejuvenates, and freshens up your face. It makes is look less dull and more radiant. It gets your circulation going and encourages cell renewal. If leaving makeup on is a habit it can even lead to permanently enlarged pores which are an even bigger magnet for all kinds of debris. Making sure your face is completely clean before you go to bed will make your skin look glowy, youthful, and plump and allow it to put all the energy into rejuvenating and regenerating itself.

3. It Helps Your Skin Absorb Everything Else You Put On It

It’s much easier for your moisturizer, serums, masks, and other skincare products to penetrate and nurture your skin if you clean it beforehand. Cleansers remove not only external pollutants, but also excessive sebum(natural skin oil) stuck inside your pores and allow your skin to soak up all the goodness from the other products you use afterwards. Sebum in and of itself is by no means a “bad guy” but excessive amounts can cause a plethora of issues.

4. It’s A Form Of Relaxation

I like to think of the entire skincare routine as a relaxing evening (and morning) ritual that allows me to process the day as I go through the motions. It’s a soothing habit that doesn't only affect my skin but my mind as well. Look at it as a gentle face massage that will nurture both your skin and your soul and a time to simply let go. Of course it’s always the best option to use skincare that is natural, organic, sustainable, and that suits your skin, but there are a lot of affordable cleansers available that check all the marks.
