Protecting your skin is the absolute best way to prevent any future issues. In this article, we will explain how and why skin protection works.
4 Important Steps to Protect Your Skin
First and foremost, always use sunscreen. Even on days when you feel safe because the skies are gray and overcast. There are two different types of sunscreen, chemical and physical(mineral).
Chemical sunscreen absorbs faster and is a better choice if you need something more durable(and waterproof). Physical or mineral sunscreen is better if your skin is very sensitive, because it just “sits” on your skin and doesn’t irritate it as much. It’s also more moisturizing and a better choice if you need something a bit more nourishing. If you are in a situation where you don’t have access to sunscreen, try your best to stay in shade, cover your skin, and wear a hat that keeps sunrays away from your face. Vitamin D is incredibly important and you shouldn't completely avoid the sun, just make sure your face is ALWAYS protected and also that you do it in moderation, you don’t have to spend hours upon hours laying in the scorching sun, 15-20 minutes (avoid it between 10AM and 4PM) daily should do.
2. Use Gentle Skin Products
Try to use gentle products that contain as little harsh chemicals as possible. Seek out gentle, natural, and organic products that won’t completely strip your skin of its natural oils. Cleansing products should clean your skin and remove dirt and excess oil, they are not supposed to make your skin feel itchy, tight or even burning. You should also avoid overdoing it. Using a gentle cleanser once or twice a day (evening and /or morning) is enough.
3. Live A Healthy Lifestyle
Regular physical activity, healthy diet, reducing stress, and sufficient hydration are all important factors when it comes to healthy skin. Vitamins are the key to making your skin look fresh and glowing and avoiding dull and dry appearance. When you take care of your body, it will show and your beauty will shine from the inside out.
4. Know Your Skin
Get to know your skin. Different skin types need different skincare products. Everyone should use a moisturizer but some might need a lighter gel water-based one and others a thicker one that will nourish and protects dry skin. Those with combination skin might need more than one product if they have an oily t-zone and very dry cheeks for example. And always pay attention to how your skin reacts not only to new products but to your routine overall. Your skin changes as you age and you might need a different moisturizer at 50 than you do in your 20s.
